VIR 6hr
Thursday, October 9th, 2008This past weekend we were at Virginia Speedway. This race is different than any other race on the calender because it is a 6 hr endurance race. For this race I had 2 teammate rather than just one. I was joined by both Andy Lally and Peter Ludwig.
We once again rolled off the trailer with a really good car. The car was not super fast; however, the set up on the car allowed us to run very constant yet still quick lap times without burning off the tires. In the early practice session we were constantly in the top 10 as we searched for both a good qualifying set up but also a nice neutral race set up.
I didn’t get the best qualifying lap in and only managed a time good enough for 11th overall. During the race i focused on keeping the car clean and staying out of trouble. I managed to move up quite a bit in the early stages of the race. After 2hr 30 min of being in the car I handed the car over to Peter in 2nd overall. He did a great job maintaining the position and handing the car over to Andy.
Andy raced in two races ( in two different states) this past weekend. He was at Road Atlanta for the Petit Le Mons race in a porsche rs spyder. Then late Saturday night after the ALMS race he drove up to Virginia for our koni challenge event. That said, the race was the first time that he had been in the car for the weekend. However, he obviously did a great job and got up to speed in about one lap. At the end of 6hrs there were 3 cars that were racing for the win and we were one of them. However, the other two were mustangs that would just pull away from us on the straights. Although we obviously wanted the win, third is still a great finish. In addition to our podium, Duncan and Spencer finished 4th making it a rather good weekend for the TRG guys.
