Bertheau, Pumpelly to Defend Points Lead with TRG in Homestead

Petaluma, CA (February 28, 2011)- One month after taking the team’s fourth incredible victory at the season-opening Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, TRG will head to the second round of the Rolex Sports Car Series presented Crown Royal Cask no. 16 as the leader in GT points. Returning for this weekend’s Grand Prix of Miami, TRG has historically had a lot of success at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and drivers Steve Bertheau and Spencer Pumpelly seem more than up to the challenge.

Following his first ever victory in the Rolex Sports Car Series, Steve Bertheau will be joining the team for his first race at the high-banked circuit in South Florida. Reuniting with long-time teammate Spencer Pumpelly, Bertheau heads in to this weekend’s race full of promise for the remainder of the season.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend’s Grand Prix of Miami,” stated Bertheau. “Homestead is one of the more challenging tracks because the banking can be really intimidating, but I know the team and Spencer will give me all the tools I need to run hard. Coming off of our win at Daytona I’m still just speechless at how everything has gone. This is a great team and I feel very fortunate to be here.”

blehFor Spencer Pumpelly, the tight and technical configuration of the Homestead infield will remain the big question for this weekend’s event.

“With Daytona over, the rest of the season really begins this weekend,” stated Pumpelly. “Homestead is one of the hardest tracks on tires, and it’s going to be an interesting challenge to see how our Porsche fares up against some of the other manufacturers on the new Continental tires.”

For Team Owner Kevin Buckler, a return to Homestead is equal parts exciting and curious.

“Homestead has always been a great track for us,” stated Buckler. “Over the years it seems like we’ve always ended up on the podium or victory lane, and hopefully we’ll repeat that feat this year. I just walked out to the trophy case and counted 9 total and 3 wins!! This track is one of the biggest tests for Continental tires, so we’ll see how our Porsches fair against some of the lighter cars like the Mazda’s and Camaros. We couldn’t be happier to see Steve return to the team for this weekend’s race. To win Daytona in his first ever try was an amazing accomplishment, and our eyes are now focused solidly on the championship. He couldn’t have a better teammate than with Spencer, who will do a terrific job of just getting the job done. We’re lucky to have such a great group of guys and gals and let’s keep the wins coming!”

The Grand Prix of Miami will take place live on Saturday, March 5th at Homestead-Miami Speedway and will be broadcast live on SPEED at 12PM ET.
