Bertheau, Pumpelly Look for VIR Victory

1211413875_w9k24-mPetaluma, CA (May 9, 2011)- With three rounds past in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sportscar Series presented by Crown Royal Cask no. 16, defending VIR race winners TRG head to the upcoming Bosch Engineering 250 full of optimism as the team looks to continue their fight for the championship.

Driving the no. 67 Sargent & Lundy TRG Porsche GT3 Cup, drivers Steve Bertheau and Spencer Pumpelly head to Virginia International Raceway, a 3.27 mile, 17-turn road course nestled in the rural city of Alton, Virginia.

A favorite track of Pumpelly’s, and the first circuit on the 2011 calendar that Bertheau has driven previously at, the TRG crew heads to the track full of promise. Adding to the fact that the long straights, high speed corners and elevation changes may lend themselves favorably to the Porsche’s unique characteristics, the team heads to the circuit with strong potential to regain their strong form on the season’s championship.

Of course, most importantly, TRG heads in to this weekend as the defending race winners, after a tremendous race in 2010. Strong driving and strong strategy gave TRG’s no. 66 a near lap-up on the entire field, leading to a last lap dual between TRG’s Andy Lally and Turner’s Bill Auberlen during last year’s race.

For Buckler, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to bring TRG back to the form they’re used to.

“Last year’s win at VIR was the ultimate showing of what we do best,” stated Buckler. “We had a good car, we played the strategy perfectly, and our crew and drivers did exactly what they were supposed to do, and as a result we took the win. This year should be no different. Steve has come a long way and we’ll be at a huge advantage since he’s driven here before. Spencer is about as experienced as you get at VIR, and between that and our guys and team we are really prepared.”

Holding on to their top-10 in the points standings, this weekend’s round will be pivotal in the championship.

The Bosch Engineering 250 will take place this Saturday, May 14th at Virginia International Raceway, and broadcast the same day on SPEED at 5PM ET.
