TRG Surges into the Baltimore Grand Prix with a One-Point Championship Lead.
Baltimore, MD (August 29th, 2011) – The Racer’s Group eagerly anticipates another weekend of racing in the GTC class of The American LeMans Series in this weekend’s inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix, a temporary street-circuit around the city’s Inner Harbor. The team currently holding a slim one-point margin in the GTC team championship, hopes to put some distance between itself and Black Swan Racing on the tight Baltimore city streets.
TRG sports a two-car effort for the championship battle. The No. 68 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Porsche will be branded Team Baltimore Racing for this historic event as local hero and previous TRG Championship winning driver, Marc Bunting returns to the series, pairing with Series regular and young hot-shoe, Dion von Moltke in the Team Baltimore Racing/PR Newswire/Marriott Baltimore/South African Airways race car.
“We are especially excited about at pairing up with Team Baltimore Racing who is using this opportunity to give back to the community," said TRG team owner Kevin Buckler. "Having local driver, Marc Bunting back with TRG is great!
“Street circuits always prove to be challenging, and this one will be no different especially since this it is the first-ever event here and there is a bit of the unknown. I am confident in our guys though. We have a hard-working crew to pair with an extremely capable group of drivers in Duncan Ende, Dion von Moltke, Marc Bunting and Spencer Pumpelly. Duncan and Spencer have really been on fire and will be great teammates this weekend with Dion and Marc. We are thrilled to be in the points lead in ALMS, and I can’t tell you how much that means to us. We are coming here to win and to add to those points!!”
Coming into the weekend 11 points shy of the drivers championship and joining it’s sister car, is the No. 66 Racer’s Roast/Fox River Coffee/TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup driven by rising ALMS star, Ende and series veteran, Pumpelly. Fresh off of a second place finish at Road America, the duo is especially hungry for another win to add to their wins at Mosport and Mid-Ohio.
“Though it was a great race, we missed the last one by a few corners after running out of fuel.” said Ende. “We are coming down to the last few races where every single point counts. I’m really hoping for another strong performance to extend our lead.”
TRG’s continued run for an ALMS GTC championship will be augmented by several events for its customers and fans. On Wednesday, August 31, Morton’s Steakhouse in downtown Baltimore is hosting an exclusive Adobe Road wine dinner open to the public (RSVP via www.mortons.com/Baltimore – Inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix tab; Adobe Road Wine Dinner, $125), beginning at 6:30 p.m. Kevin Buckler, TRG team and winery owner, will celebrate TRG’s Team Baltimore Racing entry into the Baltimore Grand Prix, by introducing specific menu pairings with the Adobe Road wines. TBR drivers Marc Bunting and Dion von Moltke will be there for the event, created to support TBR’s charities – Boy Scouts of America, University of Maryland Children’s Hospital and Catholic Charities.
Catch the race live in it’s entirety on ESPN3.com, 4:15pm EST, September 3rd or watch the 90min recap on ABC, 4:00pm EST, September 4th.
