The Power of TRG Returns to Virginia International Raceway

Petaluma, CA (September 14): While the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila PatrĂ³n heads to Virginia International Raceway for its initial foray, The Racer's Group (TRG) is no stranger to the 3.4-mile road course where it has twice stood atop the podium.  TRG, one of the most successful North American Porsche sports car teams within the last 20 years, is set to compete with its No. 66 Venezuela/Avior Airlines/Solar Cargo GTC Porsche GT3 Cup car, piloted by Venezuelan champion Emilio DiGuida and two-time Rolex 24 at Daytona winner Spencer Pumpelly.

TRG team owner Kevin Buckler, arrives at VIR armed with some of the most impressive wins in modern sports car racing history, featuring a first place victory at Le Mans and four in-class wins at the 24 Hours at Daytona--including an overall victory back in 2003. The TRG corporate office in Petaluma, CA best illustrates this success with multiple trophy cases that hold more than 150 trophies from the beginning of the TRG era.

"A win at VIR would certainly set the stage for an awesome season finale," explains Buckler. "With only Petit Le Mans left on the schedule after VIR, securing first-place points would bring us that much closer to our championship goals. We have had some strong runs here in the past at VIR, a couple of strong wins and Spencer is amazing here.  Emilio is really on his game and I am so looking forward to this combo racing together again. We have had great cars and great effort from everyone all year long, and I don't anticipate anything less than a full-out performance that could lead us to the top of the GTC podium."

Aspirations for a championship have made both Pumpelly and DiGuida a rather ambitious pair as they have successfully worked together throughout the ALMS season.

"VIR is one of those iconic tracks.  It's even more noteworthy that ALMS will be running here, which is a first for the series." says DiGuida. "The car is solid, the team is solid. Bringing the team a win is very much a reality if we can stay out of trouble."

ALMS cars will be passing under the infamous oak tree for the very first time, giving racers, spectators, and media a race to remember. Experience holds value at a track like VIR, and TRG knows this well, having had several notable successes including wins back in 2006 and 2010 in the Rolex Grand-Am Series.

"Even though ALMS has never run this track, many of the drivers have driven here in other series," Pumpelly explains. "As with any high-speed course, the GTC, GT and prototype classes will be running together, and there are some very fast sections of this track - so traffic management will be an important matter for everyone, not just the slower cars."

The American Le Mans Series at VIR live streaming will begin Saturday (9/15) at 2:15 EST on ESPN3 and the ESPN2 Television Broadcast will be on Sunday (9/16) at 5:00pm EST.
