TRG Brings New Assault for Miller

Petaluma, CA —

Returning to the track that the team has won at en route to a team and drivers’ championship, TRG heads to this weekend’s Utah 250 at Miller Motorsports Park with a new lineup and high confidence. As previous race-winners, the team looks forward to a new challenge in the first ever sprint-race at the track, taking place this Saturday, September 19 in Tooele, Utah.

Returning to his home track, Salt Lake City native John Potter and teammate Craig Stanton seek strong results in the No. 65 Magnus Racing/TRG Porsche GT3. At last year’s race, not only did John conquer a treacherous downpour of rain to take a solid finish on his home track, but he also became quite the local hero with a free T-shirt giveaway to all the fans. Handing out free shirts to all of the fans, featuring a picture of John labeled as “Utah’s McDreamy,” Potter looks to up his feat from last year.“Last year we had a great race,” stated Utah-native Potter. “The rain was pretty insane but we kept it on the road, and I was able to really gain some speed and compete with some of the top drivers. Our shirts were a big hit with the fans, but this year’s going to be even bigger. We have a new sponsor that we’re trying to promote, but you’ll have to wait and see who it is.”

Joining for the first time in the Rolex GT ranks, TRG is proud to bring former Koni Challenge teammates Andy Lally and Scott Schroeder together in the Rolex series No. 66 AXA/Cohen Financial Porsche GT3. Andy and Scott proved a winning combination last year in the Koni Challenge series, and look forward to continue that pairing in the Rolex series for this weekend’s race.

“I’ve really enjoyed running in the Rolex series this year, and pairing again with Andy is a real opportunity for us to go for the win,” said Schroeder, who has competed in a part-time Rolex GT season this year with co-driver Josemanuel Gutierrez. “I have to thank AXA, Cohen Financial, and my good friend Josemanuel for making this happen. Andy and I were able to take a strong win in Iowa last year, and I’d like to continue that in the Rolex series.”For Team Owner Kevin Buckler, coming back to the race at Miller is always a good memory.

“The inaugural race for us here was one of our best memories as a company,” stated Buckler. “Not only did we take the win, but it clinched us the drivers’ and team titles, and further established our place as one of the best teams in the series. This year should be just as good. It’s John’s home race and we want to see him do well. I’m also proud to welcome his new sponsor, and I look forward to seeing what antics come next. Andy and Scott getting together in the Rolex series will be sensational. They’re a winning combination and we look forward to seeing how this weekend unfolds for our danger duo.”

The Utah 250 will be televised on the SPEED Channel starting at 5:30 PM EST, September 19.

TRG's Gaughan and Lally Second at Montreal

Petaluma, CA — TRG's Brendan Gaughan and Andy Lally finished second in yesterday's running of the Grand-Am Rolex Series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada.  Teammates John Potter and Craig Stanton finished the day ninth.

The weather played havoc with the competition at Montreal's 2.7-mile, 15-turn Gilles Villeneuve island circuit.  The on-again-off-again rain had many teams performing as many as six pit stops during the two-hour event trying to keep ahead of the weather.Gaughan, NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, started the No. 66 South Point Casino/AXA/TRG Porsche in treacherous conditions and managed to put in an excellent stint on slicks.  The Las Vegas resident then turned it over to sports car ace Andy Lally who managed to lead several laps during his time at the wheel.  A daring call by team owner Kevin Buckler to stay out on slicks during the last rain period had Lally bring the TRG Porsche home in second.

"I wanted to keep the transmission in it and keep it on the track," Gaughan said.  "I accomplished all of my goals this weekend with the TRG Porsche.  I wanted to run clean, learn and get maximum laps to prepare for the Nationwide race.  Getting on the podium and finishing second is a huge bonus.  Andy did a great job that last hour in the rain on slicks.  It was unbelievable doing the wet-to-dry thing, but Andy and Kevin kept talking to me and keeping me cool. I did what I wanted to do, and then handed it over to Andy.""We had a great event," Lally said.  "We had a great race.  At the end of the day the TRG Porsche was super solid and fast.  It is not often that we choose to stay out on slicks in the wet, but we did and it worked out at the end.  Kevin made some great calls and we brought it home on the podium.  Brendan did a great job with such little time in the car.  He was consistent and got faster every session.  I hope to see him back in a TRG car soon."

John Potter and Craig Stanton soldiered through the changing conditions to finish the race in ninth.  The team had the No. 65 Magnus Racing/TRG Porsche GT3 on point all day."It was a crazy race," Stanton said.  "John did a great job in the opening stint, we sent him out on slicks and he kept it on the track.  When I got in it started to rain, dried and then rained again.  We were in and out of the pits.  John (Bedell, crew chief) and the guys did almost as many pits stops in two-hours as we did at the six-hours of The Glen.  It was a good day, we came away with a car in one piece and we are looking forward to Miller Motorsports Park, John's home track."

Kevin Buckler, TRG team owner, has put another first time driver on the podium."What a day," Buckler said.  "The weather was crazy.  Our guys in the pits did a great job with all the tire changes today.  Brendan did a fantastic job all weekend.  He came on with us to get some extra time for the Nationwide race and he ends up getting on the podium and tasting some champagne in the Grand-Am Series.  John Potter and Craig Stanton had a strong outing together in treacherous conditions.  John had an unbelievable first stint.  It was dry, rained, damp and everything in between, plus a lot of carnage.  John was able to steer clear of all the craziness.  Craig, as always, was the consummate pro.  The crazy weather was tough on the 65 as we had a great plan but we were caught on a late race yellow.  We are now headed to John's home track next at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, watch out!"

TRG's Potter and Stanton Looking for Breakout Race at Montreal

Petaluma, CA — TRG's John Potter and Craig Stanton are ready to take on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada for round 11 of the Grand-Am Rolex Series.

The 2.7-mile, 15-turn Gilles Villeneuve island circuit offers the Grand-Am competitors a first class park setting road course to test their mettle.John Potter will take to the track for the first time in his No. 65 Magnus Racing/TRG Porsche GT3.  Teamed with sports car veteran Craig Stanton the duo have shown steady improvement all season and could see the Canadian circuit be their breakout venue."I have never been there before, but I hear good things," Potter said.  "After racing at Three Rivers in KONI last week I am looking forward to seeing the Canadian fans fill the stands again. TRG has a run every race at the circuit and Andy Lally won the first time there, so they have lots of video and data that I have been studying.  One thing I like about driving with Craig is that his instruction will be very helpful when we get there.  Also, I should be able to get a good amount of time in the car."

Stanton likes the island circuit and is looking forward to the weekend.

"I like Montreal, they have some great race fans," Stanton said.  "The track has a lot of history.  I think we will have a really good car there.  John is ready to go and the TRG guys will have a good setup on the car for us to start with.  I am going to go up early and get the lay of the land and study the nuances of the track.  The track is a lot like a street circuit.  It has crowns in the road and about two feet of grass on either side.  It reminds me of Long Beach.  You definitely do not want to go off.  Some of the turns you have to run like a motocross track to get a good launch off the turns.  It will be a dog fight, the Mazdas will be strong as well as the Pontiacs.  I think the guys who negotiate the DP traffic the best will have the best result.Kevin Buckler, TRG team owner, has a lot of confidence in Potter and Stanton.

"John and Craig have steadily impressed all of us this season," Buckler said.  "They have consistently gotten faster and faster and were able to lead a lot of laps at Watkins Glen.  They have been on the cusp of a podium finish and this could be the weekend.  John has a terrific approach and the tools behind the wheel and Craig brings a veteran approach that pays off at the end.  I am looking for big things this weekend."

NASCAR's Brendan Gaughan to Drive TRG Porsche at Montreal

Petaluma, CA —

NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Brendan Gaughan will drive the No. 66 South Point Casino/TRG Porsche GT3 at this weekend's Grand-Am Rolex Series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada.

Gaughan, from Las Vegas, will make his first Grand-Am Series start with co-driver and Rolex 24 at Daytona winner Andy Lally.  Gaughan will also be competing in his regular ride, the No. 62 USfidelis Chevrolet, in the Nationwide race.

"Growing up in the off-road world if you had aspirations on going to the next level in racing you looked to sports cars or Indy cars," Gaughan said.  "As my career progressed and I was fortunate enough to get into the NASCAR side of things my passion for road racing has never diminished.

"Initially, I was just hoping to run the Grand-Am race to get some laps in to be better prepared for the Nationwide race in my No. 62 USfidelis Chevy.  But after learning that I was going to be running with Andy and the car that's fifth in the points, now I'm hoping to gain valuable track experience and try to help the team gain more points."

"A lot of people don't know this but Brendan and I actually went through our driving school together 16 years ago," Lally said.  "I've been rooting for him for years through his NASCAR career and we got to race against each other a bit while I was doing a partial truck schedule. I think he will do very well at Montreal and can't wait to team up with him for this race. I was with TRG in 2007 when we won the inaugural race at Montreal and look forward to trying to get to the top step of the podium again.  We have been struggling a lot as many of the prep two teams have come to better grips with their cars. It will be interesting to see how we stack up at Montreal. I think it will be a hard fought race but I can't even guess who will have the advantage."

Kevin Buckler, TRG team owner, is happy to have Gaughan in his car at Montreal.

"It will be really cool to see Brendan in a Porsche," Buckler said.  "He is a very talented driver both on asphalt and in the dirt.  The Porsche will be another new animal for him, but with his talent and go-for-it spirit I am sure he will be up to speed in no time at all.  Andy is looking forward to running with his old driving school mate and having a strong run in Montreal this weekend.  Having some of these NASCAR stars over here running with us is definitely good for both series'."

The Grand-Am Rolex Series race from Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada will be televised live on the SPEED Channel starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29.

TRG Takes Rolex Koni Porsches to Trois-Rivieres

Petaluma, CA TRG is heading to the Great White North for the Grand-Am Rolex Series KONI Sports Car Challenge Grand Prix DE Circuit Trois-Rivières. The tricky Trois-Rivières circuit is a 1.5-mile street course with 10-turns, making for very close racing.  The track located west of Montreal is a driver and fan favorite.  The race will be run to a truncated time schedule from the typical two-hour-and-forty-five minutes to one-hour-and-thirty minutes.  Duncan Ende in the No. 39 DigiTrust Group/Adam's Polishes/Racer's Roast Coffee/ TRG Porsche 997 leads the TRG contingent as he stands fifth place in the driver's points standings.  Teammate Spencer Pumpelly is ninth.  The pair has a win at New Jersey Motorsports Park and two third place finishes at Mid-Ohio and Laguna Seca.  The reduced race time and distance will put a premium on an upfront qualifying position for the race on Sunday.  "The best part about the weekend is the city and the people," Pumpelly said.  They are very enthusiastic fans and really extend a warm welcome to the teams.  Qualifying and pit stops will decide this race.  It is possible to pass, but you risk over-using the brakes.  So if a team can start in front and use the pit stop to stay in front it will be a huge advantage.  We have been looking at all strategy options and have several plans based on how things go in practice.  We have been good here in the past while other makes have struggled.  BMW has had a good track record as well."  "It is tough to pass at Trois-Rivières and the track is very hard on brakes," Lally said.  "If you can get out front and get clean air to your brake ducts you will be in much better shape.  We had a great race here in 2007 and were the best car in the field.  I am hoping we can duplicate that setup and be fast again!  The atmosphere is the best part of Three Rivers.  The fans show up at 8 a.m. on Friday and they are already drinking beer! There are beautiful girls walking all over the paddock and sponsors and teams are incredibly psyched up for the race and the locals are very welcoming!""Duncan and John will have to put in a big time qualifying effort this weekend," Buckler said.  "The circuit is so tight that starting at the back will have you finish there at the end.  We will need to qualify well and run mistake free.  We also have a few tricks up our sleeve as far as strategy goes.  This will be a strange race with the reduced race time and tight confines of a street circuit.  We will be ready!"TRG is a manufacturer and distributor of high-performance racing parts.
