TRG Takes Rolex Koni Porsches to Trois-Rivieres

Petaluma, CA —

TRG is heading to the Great White North for the Grand-Am Rolex Series KONI Sports Car Challenge Grand Prix DE Circuit Trois-Rivières.  
 
The tricky Trois-Rivières circuit is a 1.5-mile street course with 10-turns, making for very close racing.  The track located west of Montreal is a driver and fan favorite.  The race will be run to a truncated time schedule from the typical two-hour-and-forty-five minutes to one-hour-and-thirty minutes.  
 
Duncan Ende in the No. 39 DigiTrust Group/Adam's Polishes/Racer's Roast Coffee/ TRG Porsche 997 leads the TRG contingent as he stands fifth place in the driver's points standings.  Teammate Spencer Pumpelly is ninth.  The pair has a win at New Jersey Motorsports Park and two third place finishes at Mid-Ohio and Laguna Seca.  The reduced race time and distance will put a premium on an upfront qualifying position for the race on Sunday.
 
"Trois-Rivières is a totally unique event for us on the KONI calendar," Ende said.  "It's the only street circuit we have, it's incredibly tight and much slower than anywhere else we go, and at 90 minutes the race is an hour shorter than normal this year.  All of the major straights start and end with second gear corners, which means the Mustangs and BMWs kill us coming onto them and we do our very best to make it back up on the brakes at the other end.  Usually it winds up being pretty impossible to pass, so qualifying upfront is as important as it gets.  We should be reasonably strong here, but we need to get the car out front early on because we won't be able to come through the field no matter how hooked up we are on Sunday."
 
"The best part about the weekend is the city and the people," Pumpelly said.  They are very enthusiastic fans and really extend a warm welcome to the teams.  Qualifying and pit stops will decide this race.  It is possible to pass, but you risk over-using the brakes.  So if a team can start in front and use the pit stop to stay in front it will be a huge advantage.  We have been looking at all strategy options and have several plans based on how things go in practice.  We have been good here in the past while other makes have struggled.  BMW has had a good track record as well."
 
John Potter and Andy Lally are solidly tenth in the point standings in their No. 41 Magnus Racing/TRG Porsche 997.  Potter and Lally have a win at Watkins Glen and two second place finishes at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Lime Rock Park on the season so far.   
 
"This will be my first visit to Trois-Rivières," Potter said.  "It will also be my first street course race.  The Porsche is a light car and has very good brakes which should really help us this weekend.  These type of tracks are usually very hard to pass on, so I will have to qualify well."
 
"It is tough to pass at Trois-Rivières and the track is very hard on brakes," Lally said.  "If you can get out front and get clean air to your brake ducts you will be in much better shape.  We had a great race here in 2007 and were the best car in the field.  I am hoping we can duplicate that setup and be fast again!  The atmosphere is the best part of Three Rivers.  The fans show up at 8 a.m. on Friday and they are already drinking beer! There are beautiful girls walking all over the paddock and sponsors and teams are incredibly psyched up for the race and the locals are very welcoming!"
 
Kevin Buckler, TRG team owner, will be looking for strategy and qualifying to keep the TRG Porsches upfront.  
 
"Duncan and John will have to put in a big time qualifying effort this weekend," Buckler said.  "The circuit is so tight that starting at the back will have you finish there at the end.  We will need to qualify well and run mistake free.  We also have a few tricks up our sleeve as far as strategy goes.  This will be a strange race with the reduced race time and tight confines of a street circuit.  We will be ready!"
 
TRG was founded in 1993 and has been competing at the top level of motor racing ever since.  The team has the most wins of any team in the Grand-Am Rolex Series with 26, including the 2005 and 2006 Rolex Series GT championship trophy to go along with wins at the Rolex 24 (three) at Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.  TRG's young KONI Challenge team has logged three wins and recorded nine podium finishes in their first two seasons of competition.
