What is Rennsport?

The world’s largest gathering of Porsche race cars and drivers return to Laguna Seca Raceway for an amazing Porsche family reunion. In what has become a memorable tradition, Rennsport Reunion VI will bring together an extraordinary gathering of legendary Porsche race cars, as well as those who have designed, engineered, and driven them to victory in the world’s most famous sports car races — basically the who’s-who of the Porsche world and nearly all of the Porsche racing legends.

Hosted by Porsche Cars North America, an additional four-day program of on-track competition will be complemented by a Concours d’Elegance and multiple on track activities.

History of Rennsport

Porsche Rennsport Reunion 2018

After staging the first three events in the east, with the inaugural at Lime Rock Park in 2001, followed by two events at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida in 2004 and 2007, Rennsport Reunion IV moved west in 2011, tapping into a vast array of west coast car aficionados and Porsche enthusiasts. Returning to a three-year interval, this incomparable event has turned into a world-wide happening attracting fans and participants from around the globe including the worldwide Porsche executive team as well.

“Choosing the Monterey Peninsula once again for our unique Porsche family reunion builds upon what we learned from previous Rennsport Reunions,” said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “We had close to 60,000 fans, enthusiasts and owners come through the gates of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to celebrate with us in 2015, and California’s picturesque central coast provides an ideal backdrop. The Golden State as a whole has always been like a second home to Porsche.”

What is different about Rennsport VI?

  • 50 Invited Porsche “Legend Drivers” will be arriving in Monterey from all over the world for Rennsport Reunion VI!!! From Jacky Ickx, Brian Redman, Derek Bell, Timo Bernhard & Hurley Haywood and nearly every Porsche factory driver along the way.
  • Our very own Kevin Buckler is not only being honored as one of the Porsche Legends, but will also be racing in his Porsche 66 car from his Epic overall win at the 2003 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona

Meet the Legends

Meet the Legends: Porsche is synonymous with passion, power, technological dominance, victories and legends. When you think of Porsche, not only do the models spring to life like 908, 910, 917/30 and 911, but so too do the drivers who piloted them to race wins in the world’s most grueling competitions.

There are thousands of race car drivers around the world. But there are far fewer who can be called Porsche Legends. At Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV, more than 50 legendary Porsche drivers who took this fabled marque to victories at the world’s most demanding race tracks will be on hand to celebrate Porsche racing history.

At Porsche Rennsport Reunion Vl, fans will have the opportunity to meet the legends, hear their stories and see the cars up close!

Chopard Heritage Display

Taking center stage in the race paddock will be a very special display that features an exclusive collection of the most important Porsche cars in the world. While these invitation only cars will not participate in the weekend’s racing, they are significant examples of Porsche history to share with motorsport and motoring enthusiasts.

The Record breaking 919 Hybrid Evo race car that has been smashing records at tracks like the Nurburgring in Germany and Spa in Belgium will also be on display.

If street cars are more your thing, Porsche is bringing its Tesla-fighting Concept Study Mission E electric car, the 356 No. 1 Roadster and, oh, about 1,000 more.

Racing Classes

Following tradition, Rennsport Reunion VI will once again reunite the cars and drivers that together have written a large part of motorsports history over the past 70 years.

As in the past five reunions, cars will be grouped by the period in which they raced so that enthusiasts can focus on the different motorsports eras, while also maximizing the number of cars in each class. Fans will have full access to both the paddock and trackside locations to see and hear everything from early 356 sports cars, through the groundbreaking 917, to the latest Le Mans winning 919 LMP1 Hybrid – and almost every number near and dear to Porsche enthusiasts in between: 550, 904, 908, 962 and of course, 911 and 935.

Seven groups promise an exciting four-day racing program with practice, qualifying and warm-up for each group. Exhibition parade laps will complement the races with a Concours on Saturday afternoon.
